“You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I’ve never met anybody who wasn’t important before.” – The Doctor
I don’t know if I’m important. I guess I’m important to a select few people close to me but in a global sense? Naw. Have I discovered anything/place worthwhile, invented something miraculous, changed the world? Nope. But, like most people, I have stuff to say and unique things to share, so here goes I guess:
Hi! My name is Emerald Peterson and welcome to my blog! Writing about yourself is hard, so I’ll try to keep this reasonably brief, like my desired amount of social interaction with strangers.
According to the Myers-Briggs personality test, I have an INFJ personality: Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, Judging. What does this nonsense mean?
“INFJs indeed share a unique combination of traits: though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in. They are decisive and strong-willed, but will rarely use that energy for personal gain – INFJs will act with creativity, imagination, conviction and sensitivity not to create advantage, but to create balance. Egalitarianism and karma are very attractive ideas to INFJs, and they tend to believe that nothing would help the world so much as using love and compassion to soften the hearts of tyrants.
INFJs seek meaning and connection in ideas, relationships, and material possessions. Want to understand what motivates people and are insightful about others. Conscientious and committed to their firm values. Develop a clear vision about how best to serve the common good. Organized and decisive in implementing their vision.”

Taking this test and reading about my personality type really helped me understand myself and why I often struggle with sharing my thoughts and feelings, and prefer authentic friendships/relationships that are based on mutual respect, kindness, and loyalty. And fun, of course. 😉 But I have extremely HIGH expectations – for myself and others. And apparently this is not as common as one would think. An INFJ personality type is extremely rare – the most rare of the 16 personality types. This personality type has also been called “The Diplomat,” “The Advocate,” “The Counselor,” “Idealist,” “The Protector,” “The Mystic,” “Empath,” and a buunch of other silly titles. But it was pretty cool to learn that Aragorn, Aramis, and Jon Snow are among my few fellow INFJs. Apparently, this is a category that makes up less than 1% of the population. Cool – I’m special! The rarest of all the gems in the land!
In addition to being super duper rare and precious and special, I also have a degree in history with a minor in psychology, and I am currently in the process of working towards my graduate certificate in children’s literature.
I am an aspiring writer with a lot of personal experience with anxiety, insomnia, and especially depression. I like to help people, so this blog is a safe place to share my experiences, insights, and advice, as well as other random silly thoughts and observations. Hopefully, this will help me clarify my own thoughts and feelings, practice writing, and also help other people who have suffered or are suffering to learn that they are not alone. I want to provide resources to those who feel like they have none. Maybe some of what has helped me in my struggles with anxiety, insomnia, and depression will help you, or your friend, or your family member. It’s worth a try. Even if it isn’t directly applicable to your specific situation, gentle reader, I hope that it will, in some small way, help spread awareness of the severity and prominence of mental illnesses and remove some of the stigma.
I like to think of myself as a tree. I love trees. A tree is stable, hardy, offers you shelter, protection, support, and can improve your environment. They are strong, persistent and they keep growing through it all. They grow from the darkness towards the light. If I love trees, hopefully I can learn to love myself.
So who am I? I guess I’m somebody. I’m a survivor. I’m an ally. I’m a caretaker. I’m a human. I have an infinite potential for growth.
